The Bacon Rock located at Wong Chuk Kok Tsui (Bluff Head), showcases a unique geological formation, characterized by its reddish sandstone that resembles strips of bacon, shaped by 400 million years of weathering and coastal erosion. It is formed by layers of sedimentary rock with varying oxidation levels, creating distinctive color bands that resemble strips of bacon. These color variations result from different mineral compositions and iron oxide concentrations in the rock layers, which have accumulated and oxidized over millions of years, producing a visually striking striped appearance that captures the complex geological history of the region.
