Devil's Fist (High Tide Version)

The Devil's Fist is best viewed at low tide, as the entire formation, including the "wrist," becomes visible. During high tide, the Devil's Fist may be partially submerged, obscuring the lower part of the formation. However, the upper "fingers" of the fist can still be seen, creating a different, yet still impressive, view. The surrounding red Devonian sandstone adds to the dramatic scenery, regardless of the tide.

400 Million Years Sedimentary Rock Region

The 400-million-year-old sedimentary rock regions, like those found in Hong Kong, especially in Bluff Head (Wong Chuk Kok Tsui) and represented by the Old Red Sandstone, reveal Earth's ancient environments. Formed during the Devonian period, these rocks consist of sandstones and shales deposited in rivers and shallow marine settings, later deformed by continental collisions. Fossils within provide insights into early plant and animal life.

Ap Lo Chun

Ap Lo Chun, part of the Double Haven Special Area, features sedimentary rocks of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Located in Ap Chau Bay, the Kat O Formation on Ap Chau (including Sai Ap Chau and Ap Lo Chun) consists mainly of reddish-brown breccia with sandstone. These calcareous minerals are susceptible to marine erosion, creating sea caves, cliffs, arches, and wave-cut platforms. A small sea arch can be found in Ap Lo Chun, called Ear Arch.
